| South
Asia requires a better understanding of its predicament
and challenges, both at the regional, and at each
country's, level. It needs a holistic perspective
which helps in developing a dynamic path towards
progress and peace, putting aside all particularistic
biases.
At the moment, there is no effective scholarly
publication which addresses the major issues faced
by the region and the countries of South Asia
in a scientific, objective and serious manner.
There are publications that are focused on sectors
or countries, but there is no publication which
covers major areas of concern to the people of
South Asia, both academically and concretely.
A South Asian Journal fulfilling all these requirements
and standards should provide a pluralist platform
for a serious and informed analysis of all that
is crucial to the development of the people, the
nation-states and the region as a whole. It should
engage the best minds to share their thoughts
with those who matter in policy and public opinion
making, besides the representatives of civil society.
The South Asian Free Media Association (SAFMA),
a mainstream media body, has decided to take up
this challenge and publish a serious and analytical
quarterly journal in collaboration with experts,
analysts and editors of the region. The focus
of the Journal will be issues pertinent to South
Asia as a region, and issues related to particular
countries. The articles will be a mix of essays,
analysis and opinions. We hope to make the Journal
a rigorous and analytical voice, for policy makers,
academics, opinion makers and activists.
The journal will appreciate your feedback and
suggestions.
