SL thanks Maldives for support at UNHRC

MALE: The government of Sri Lanka expressed gratitude to the Maldives government for the support extended by the Maldives at the UN Human Rights Council special session on Sri Lanka held on 6 – 27 May 2009. During a meeting held at foreign ministry the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to the Maldives H M T Wijewickrama, thanked Maldives foreign minister Dr Ahmed Shaheed for the Maldivian support and requested the minister to convey the appreciation of the President and the people of Sri Lanka to the President and the people of the Maldives.

According to Miadhu News, Minister Shaheed congratulated the Sri Lankan government for ending the war in Sri Lanka. The Minister also extended full support of the Maldives to the Sri Lankan government. He expressed its hope that the close bilateral relationship held between Sri Lanka and the Maldives will continue to flourish.
