THIMPHU: Bhutanese youth bagged three gold, two silver and three bronze medals at the first International Khomlainai championship held at Kokrajhar district in Assam yesterday. Khomlainai is an indigenous game of the Bodo tribe of Assam. Bhutan bagged the second highest medals. Six countries participated in the game. Rajesh Rana from Gelephu bagged a gold medal in Khomlainai and Biju Pradhan also from Gelephu won a bronze medal.

This is the first time Bhutan participated in the game. Our reporter Pema Samdrup says khomlainai is a mix of wrestling, kickboxing and taekwondo. The championship also included Karate, Taekwondo and boxing.

In Taekwondo Tashi and Kinley Tshering from Bhutan Taekwondo Federation won a gold medal each.

Lhakpa Tashi Sherpa and Dendup Tshering won a silver medal each and Kezang Wangdi, Prakash Ghalley and Kumar won a bronze medal each.

Seven hundred participants from six countries participated in the championship. It was organized by the Khomlainai Federation of India.
