MALE: Health Ministry and Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has revealed that although vaccines for swine flu has been created, there is no hope of it reaching Maldives soon enough. Dr Ahmed Raazee from IGMH said that there are some important issues to ponder on before bringing swine flu vaccine to Maldives. He said that there were some companies ready to supply the vaccine to Maldives but these vaccines cannot be brought to Maldives before making sure that it fits WHO guidelines. Dr Raazee added that the price of the vaccine was an important issue as well. He said that there are some swine flu vaccines are in the market for USD 20 and even USD 25 but that cannot be brought here. He also said that the quality of the vaccine was also a serious issue. Dr Raazee said that they can buy vaccines from a company that is accepted by Maldives.
Minister of Health Aminath Jameel has also said that they are doing a lot of work to get some supplies of swine flu vaccine but was not sure exactly when this will be realized.
