THIMPHU: The Royal Norwegian Government contributed US$ 300,000 to the Bhutan Health Trust Fund (BHTF). To this effect, an Addendum was signed today. It was signed by Jan Hako Olsson, Counsellor of the Royal Norwegian Embassy in New Delhi and the Secretary of GNH Commission Karma Tshiteem. The secretary said the contribution will help in enhancing primary health care services in the country. The contribution is in addition to Norway’s earlier contribution of over US$ 980,000. Norway is so far the largest donor to the Bhutan Health Trust Fund. The Fund was launched on May 12, 1998 to ensure sustainability of primary health care through continued and uninterrupted supply of essential drugs and vaccines.

A news release says the Bhutan Health Trust Fund has mobilized more than US$ 23 million of the total target of US$ 24 million.
